hi all
New to this site.
Me and my husband are just getting things together to start up a B & B in our house.
We moved here 4 years ago and the previous owner had it as a B & B.
We have 2 rooms available, 1 double and 1 twin or double. Both rooms are en-suite. We have tea, coffee, facility in each room, both have tvs.
Couple of things :-
1. Any advice is welcome
2. Where is the best place to get things like Jams/butters etc.

Not sure what would be considered "the best" but we are going to get a cash and carry account eg Bookers Macro etc you just need proof of address and some invoices addressed to your business.

Little butter pots etc are only really available from cash and carrys although some big supermarkets do stock random things like that. If you are worried about cost i.e. going off before you use them buy normal butter/margarine for your family and make some curls on a plate/butter dish for the guests.

I have had my first success with homemade jam this week so I hope to use my own jam as I know I prefer to see local food when I stay B&B - main advantage over large chain places tip: our local butchers and farm shops stock locally made jam I was planning on using if my own attempts had ended in failure.

Use local produce where possible, people do appreciate it. I make my own jams etc (I invested in a Tefal jam maker which makes it much quicker and you don't have to stand and stir.) I serve them in ramekins.

Ask your butcher for a catering rate and if you start getting busy, ask for home delivery. I now use Ocado regularly for my other shopping, non-local stuff.
As for butter, I had some lovely little butter pots in which I put it but sadly I'm down to 1 now. So I tried butter curls which are fine except you end up with odd shaped lumps of butter that you can't use for curling. So after failing to find similar dishes to before I've just bought some miniature lidded butter dishes which hold enough for 2 people.
