The latest edition of quality Edge magazine suggests that a piece of red-tape legislation that is being considered for repeal is to record passport and address details of overseas visitors. We have a couple of self-catering lets and I always take addresses but it had not crossed my mind to record passports. Is this currently a legal requirement.

In 30 years in the accommodation business in the UK I have NEVER been asked by any official for the Guest Registration Forms.
I have no idea why the Legislation exists and who is suppoost to enforce it and why.
Don't forget that now most businesses take bookings online and guests have to provide card details to pay a deposit, their addres details are already safely recorded.

Any idea how long you are supposed to keep these records?
