I wondered what people's thoughts were on the new Guest Scan initiative - http://www.guestscan.co.uk and if anyone has joined??

Until a large number of providers subscribe to the service, it will not be worthwhile joining. The site does not give the number of providers using it; it will not stop those who give false details. It would be interesting to know if anyone has refused a booking as a result of using the site - if not, then the service is not worth the money.

Yes, I have joined - it costs only £5 a year to join if you are a member of the B&B Association. Haven't had to report anything yet but thought it was good to have it there as 'insurance.' It was estimated that up to 10,000 accommodation providers were going to join - see article http://www.securitypark.co.uk/security_article265232.html

Being some time since the last post on GuestScan, I wondered if anyone has joined in the last year? If so, do you find it useful? It seems to be a bit of a chicken and egg situation, as the service won't be worth joining unless there is a fair amount of data available, but that data won't be amassed unless a fair amount of people join. I think most people will have had at least one very bad experience of nightmare guests - we've certainly faced people like this in court in the past - and the idea of being able to identify them BEFORE they cross our threshold is very appealing!
