Just wondered if anyone else running a B&B have ever had a request like this one:
this morning, I got a call from a guy asking if I had a room available. We're actually closed until next Monday so I said no and he said he was just looking for somewhere to put his head down for a few hours he had a long journey ahead. I explained that B&B owners aren't always around during the day so it was unlikely he'd find anywhere suitable, and suggested he try the local Travelodge.

It struck me as a slightly odd request and even if I'd been open, I'd have said no - but has anyone else come across anything like this?

Sounds rather odd to say the least... How long a journey could he have? The length of the UK would only take nine hours to drive and if he had a good nights rest at home, he could do that journey quite easily without having to put his head down. I think you did the wise thing in denying him access to your home.

We've had a few day bookings for various reasons. Some from this last season included long haul lorry drivers with a late ferry booking, family attending an event who need to get changed and want to relax for a few hours beforehand, and various other reasons. If we can accommodate them, we will. It's just like a one night booking and we try to have a two night minimum especially in the busy season. It's always good to have your antennae up though, so best to take each request on individual merit.

Thank you for the replies. We don't live close to an airport or ferry (Wiltshire) otherwise I might have been less suspicious. I wonder if he found somewhere. I should have suggested the library - I used to work there and did find people asleep once or twice - and that was before they had the comfy chairs they now have!
