Yesterday, we realized that our Mattison Hotel Classic Bed bases (boxsprings) were failing. The wooden slats were breaking. Not all the slats but the ones with big knots in the middle of them which made them weaker than the clear pine slats. I contacted Mitre who sold 8 of them to us and they said that we would have to speak to the manufacturer as.... "we just sell the beds." I contacted Mattison who said "You need to speak to Mitre. We just make the beds." Both companies said that there is a one year guarantee on their beds. I eventually spoke to three people at Mattison explaining that the beds were faulty due to the weakened slats with knots. "All wood has knots." they said. Eventually, to make me go away they agreed to have their service technician look at the problem when he is next in the area which would not be for a few months. They couldn't give me an exact date. When I told them that we would have to have the beds repaired in order to keep on trading and would they like to contribute to the cost, Mattison's sales manager just laughed at me.

Buying hotel beds which have only a one year guarantee was not too bright on my part. I think that says a lot about how well Mattison build their beds and how much faith they have in their product.

That's one to avoid in future next time I replace any beds - you certainly do not expect things like that to happen.

A couple of years ago, I bought a 'revival ambassador' 4 poster bed from furniture123. When it arrived I duly counted and signed for 6 parcels as stated on the delivery note. We stored the bed for 14 months because the four poster room had not been built. Once we assembled the bed we found we were short of the 2 smaller posts. I contacted furniture123 about this and the two posts were ordered at the cost of £250.00 which I had to pay for. On closer examination of the packaging the two larger posts had been orignally taped together but they had been slit to form two parcels hence I had counted 6 parcels when really only 5 had been delivered. I contacted the bed manufacturer at Newark who basically refused to answer my questions - namely were the two larger posts for this bed normally supplied taped together or not? Had there been an incidence of two 'spare' posts for their four poster beds at the time I ordered? could they supply any independent evidence of my delivery being checked as it left their factory?

Therefore I would also warn other members if buying this particular bed or anything from this bed manufacturer at Newark, Notts - be extremely careful and check everything meticulously when you take delivery.

We replaced all our beds 4 years ago now with Mattison Hotel Defiants and Firm edge sprung bases.

We bought direct from them and I must say that they have been fantastic.

The service from the rep - Nigel was super and we often receive comments about how comfy the beds are - we have even had past guests ring up and ask where we got their bed from as they want to buy one. We have had no problem with the beds what so ever, just the occasion roller ball foot, which are easily replaceable and Mattisons gave us a fress supply.

I'm glad that your beds with their one year guarantee are still working well for you. We bought exactly the same beds. They're only uncomfy when the slats break. Unfortunately, our experience with the reps at Mattison was not ideal. In fact, although they did say that their technician would stop by some months ago, they neglected to take our address or phone number. I don't think that was an oversight on their part.

We've only bought mattresses from Mattison, and we're very pleased with them, both in terms of value and quality. The reason we chose them is that they are based in our home town, hence it's supporting local employment, and as it happens I know a few of the staff there.

I can only suggest that you phone again asking for the MD and see of you get the same response from him. Now is not the time for complacency in their business.

Cheers,

Martin.
