We've only been running a B&B for 6 months so any advice that can be offered on time wasting guests would be really appreciated! We do generally make time and enjoy chatting to guests over tea or coffee when they arrive, at breakfast and when we see them coming and going if they want to stop and ask for advice about the area etc.

However we have recently acquired a single man as a 'regular' guest and he finds any excuse to ring our 'Private' doorbell for the silliest of reasons, for example, 'I thought I'd let you know the cafe up the road is closed today', or 'my friend who works at the citizens advice bureau is under threat of redandancy'. I know he is probably lonely and while I don't mind making small talk as a rule when the bell rings 4 times in an hour and I'm trying to get on and clean I find it very hard to know what to say when the usual you'll have to excuse me but I need to get with the cleaning/laundry etc doesn't work.

We are getting to the stage of dreading it when he comes to stay and wondering if we would be better declining taking future bookings from him...
