Default Hot Tubs

Could anyone who provides a hot tub with self catering accommodation please let me know how often the water is changed? We recently had a guest who insisted that at the last two places he had stayed with a hot tub, the water was changed between each booking.

We don't have one but it is what I would expect.

Hi Dishank
Dont think theres a specific legislative requirement ? but
This link may be useful as it really depends on usage. We have 4 and I change the water in all of them every week ( or fortnight for a 2 week booking/use by the same people)as it is what I would like to think happened if I were to book a Hot Tub --i.e. the water had been changed for my holiday use and we always explain this to guests on arrival.

It takes us about 4 hours to empty and clean our hot tub and filters (it then takes an hour to refill (1,000 litres)and 9-12 hours to heat up again, a process you could not expect to be done on a weekly basis nor is it necessary (swimming pools don't change the water weekly!!) Careful chemical regulation and filters similar to a swimming pool keep the water clean.
Manufacturers recommend changing the water every 3 months, we change our every 1-6 weeks depending on usage.
Unfortunatley some guests use it as a communal bath and on occation it has needed changing after a week !!

I can't imagine the extra charge one would have to work into the overall price and as value for money seems to be the order of the day for a small self catering operation I wouldn't dream of putting in a hot tub. If you are catering to the luxury end then it could be considered. I have a 5 star self catering and no one mentions hot tubs!
Wouldn't think its very eco friendly with all the water changing either.....
