Does anyone know a company that will supply and deliver bulk quantities of cleaning stuffs, toilet rolls, etc? Not the industrial ranges (unfamiliar to our guests and invariably in big containers!), more domestic such as Flash, Mr Muscle, Bold, Finish, Fairy.
Please don't anyone suggest the eco-friendly ranges - I'm very environmentally conscious and have gone down that route before, trying it for 9 months (till they eventually ran out!) but just couldn't cope with the complaints from primarily our guests about the awful smell of them and how useless they were, but also from our housekeepers who hated them with a passion! We're back to using tried and tested mainstream products I'm afraid, while doing our bit for the environment in every other way we can. We have a range of luxury holiday cottages which are fully equipped with the usual household items and I tend to buy them from local discount outfits, where they are often 30% cheaper than the big supermarkets, so it's not the price that I'm trying to reduce, just the workload of having to go out and buy them and transport them to our housekeeping storage facility on a regular basis. I go through, as an example, about 150 a year of each cleaning item (i.e Flash spray), 2500 toilet rolls, etc. I've trawled the net and cannot find a supplier/distributor, but there must be many out there - anyone know of them? Thanks Coquet Cottages |

Case of 12 x 750ml Toilet Duck for cleaning toilets - make sure its the one for commercial and industrial use only, it keeps tilet basins sparkling, no build up of lime, smells very pleasant. For cleaning floors, ceramic tiles, shower screens, wash basins, window sills in an en suite I buy a 5 litre multi-use detergent (the pink one), mix it with water at a ratio of about 1:15, apply with a mist type sprayer - it cleans everything, once again make sure you get the one for commercial and industrial use only though; it is an all purpose cleaner and I have used it now for 6 years. One 5l container lasts me all year.
I have also been told that specialist companies such as Spectrum and Dychem also do very good cleaning products and we have tried the oven cleaner recently from Spectrum with good results. |

Thanks Raincliffe. I use the toilet duck already, but the pink detergent sounds interesting - where are you buying that?
The problem though really is not what I'm using but where to order it in bulk and get it delivered to avoid having to go to the cash and carry and manhandle hundreds of bottles of cleaning stuffs and toilet rolls on a regular basis. I'll Google Spectrum and Dychem and try and find out more about them though, thanks. |

Hi
We bought a load of toilet rolls from Global fse http://www.globalfse.co.uk/ along with stocks of crockery etc etc. They also list various cleaning chemicals. We've recently started putting "eco-friendly" cleaning stuff in our cottages, and got a quantity from an outfit called Big Green Smile (ho hum) http://www.biggreensmile.com/ I found them by googling Ecover, which is the product range - it may well be worth googling something like "Fairy Liquid" or "Flash" or whatever. We mainly went for the eco stuff as we have a septic tank which ultimately leaches out into a nearby beck. One thought about putting bulk cleaning agents in spray containers: in a previous existence I had some responsibility for H&S issues where I worked (I'm okay now), and unmarked containers were a big NO-NO! Spray bottles had to be clearly marked with what they contained, and I would imagine the same would apply to providing chemicals for guests' use - only more so. "As it was pink I thought it must be shampoo so I washed little Esmerelda's hair in it and now she's bald." The obvious response of "You must be stupid, then" probably wouldn't hold up against some smart lawyer from www,wesueanyoneforanything.com. Coming to think of it, even everyday stuff like Flash usually warns the user to wear rubber gloves, in which case there'd be a duty to supply them as well. You could go nuts thinking about all this stuff. Health & Safety? More like Mental Breakdown & Safety. |

Try http://www.ajsupplies.co.uk/about.html for Cleenol, very effective, Tree of Life Wholesale for eco products like Ecover and Method, Booker wholesale for standard cleaning products, or what I often find cheapest is waiting till Tesco or Sainsbury's have offers, eg, Ecover 3 for 2 and ordering an online bulk shop.
Hope that helps. Liz www.devonretreat.com PS, our guests love Ecover and prefer the smell to awful chemical products. |

Oops, yes the pink stuff is Mr Muscle all purpose multi surface cleaner (industrial & commercial use). I just dilute this. Recently, I have road tested some Flash cleaning products which I think are yet to hit the market. I am using the 5 litre container which I was given to use by the market research people - this is EXCELLENT. It leaves a smear free finish on glass and mirrors plus if you use it diluted (not too weak) and leave it on tiles in a shower for 30 seconds it removes the thin build up of scum which appears on the tiles next to the shower tray (often appears as a slight greying of the tiles). So far it has not stained the grout either. Only problem is, it is a little vicious on the old hands - probably best to use rubber gloves. Smell very nice too. :d/

Hello raincliffe1 ,
You have made a very great solution of cleaning but as further as you had write about the glove wearing it should be keep in mind that I wear them when I clean. Its just a matter of personal choice. gotta remember though that just having the gloves does not mean they’re clean like we should not scrubbing the floor and then go off and touch something thinking our hands are clean because of gloves.Rubber gloves serve a purpose, they protect your hands from harsh chemicals, and germs. And as you say gloves are a good idea because any prolonged exposure to water, with any chemicals in it, can cause skin irritation . |
