OpenBritain's aim to become the foremost source of information for holidays aimed at people with access needs was boosted earlier this month when DisabledGo and Tourism for All UK formed an alliance.
OpenBritain was launched in July 2009 by three Ministers with the aim to be a one-stop-shop for people with accessibility needs and immediately received the support of all major disability groups and tourism organisations in both the public and the private sector.
The advantage of this alliance, is that OpenBritain will now benefit from the extensive database of venues reviewed regularly by DisabledGo. DisabledGo’s website provides access information and details for over 70,000 venues throughout the UK, 50,000 of which will be made available through the OpenBritain portal.
Jennifer Litman MBE, chief executive of Tourism for All, said that “the new partnership with DisabledGo transforms OpenBritain’s ability to provide high-quality, comprehensive information, while at the same time reinforcing the value of access guides commissioned by local authorities and available on one of disability’s best kept secrets, www.disabledgo.com.”
OpenBritain published its first guide at the end of November last year and had its website go live recently. A second guide, to be titled OpenLondon, is currently in the works.
