As we enjoy the two public holidays during May, it seems most holidaymakers would prefer to have bank holidays more evenly spread throughout the year. This was one of the findings of a survey about spring holidays conducted by TripAdvisor among more than 500 British travellers.
Seventy-four per cent of respondents said they would prefer public holidays to be more evenly spread throughout the year. However, it seems the spring breaks are still a popular time for many to get away – 46% were planning a vacation in May, slightly more than last year. Of these, 24% would be taking a long weekend break, 18% a week or longer and 10% a day tour.
Asked what they liked most about spring holiday travel, 45% of the British travellers said that taking a break in May is a welcome relief after the long winter. For 18% it was because it is less crowded and 15% indicated that the prices were more reasonable than summer.
According to the survey, the most popular parts of Britain to visit this May were the North of England, followed by Wales, the South of England and Scotland.
