It is good news for regional accommodation providers, as the top ten favourite attractions as voted by 2,500 children between the ages of eight and 15 in a poll for Travelodge shows they are keen to visit the country.
The top attraction was Stonehenge, showing that despite what people may think, historical landmarks still hold an appeal with the younger generations. This is confirmed by the second-place favourite attraction, Hadrian’s Wall, and although a more modern attraction comes in at number three, the London Eye, the following entries all have some historical significance: Edinburgh Castle comes in at number four, followed by Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the White Cliffs of Dover, the Angel of the North, Blackpool Tower and finally St Paul’s Cathedral.
Having a nearby attraction is a major draw for tourists and potential guests and accommodation providers should do all they can to promote some of the local sites to attract customers. And with the ‘staycationing’ trend still strong, having an understanding of what appeals to people and what can attract them to your area is very important to maximise your potential.
Travelodge found this information particularly useful in view of the rise in bookings they experienced over the school holidays, which was repeated during half term, and Mark Kemp, Travelodge’s reservations director said that “with the ‘staycation’ being the top holiday destination for Britons this year, youngsters have been given the opportunity to find out what makes Great Britain so great.”
