Last call for entries

Last Updated: 23 Dec 2011

VisitEngland wishes to remind all applicants that the closing date for entries to the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence is January 6, 2012. Whilst VisitEngland is pleased with the response so far there is some disappointment in the number of registrations coming from areas without local awards who can enter the national competition directly.

John Penrose MP, Minister for Tourism and Heritage, underlined the importance of the Awards to tourism in general and tourism businesses in particular: “You, in the industry, are already well aware of the high contribution tourism makes to the economy as a wealth and job creator. I want, therefore, to concentrate on why participation in this awards scheme is important for your business in particular, and the industry in general.

"Tourism consumers whether from home or overseas are mainly interested in three things: value for money, the quality of facilities, and excellent customer services. Of course sustainability and access for all are also important considerations."

"By the time the Olympic and Paralympic Games come about, there should be 2,667 accessible rooms in the London, with 1,392 of those wheelchair-friendly, according to the official promotion agency for the capital, London & Partners. But this is far from sufficient to meet demand with a potential market estimated at 78 million American and 75 million European disabled visitors."

"These awards for excellence are about driving up standards in all these areas for the benefit of consumers and businesses alike."

"Past winners of local, regional and national tourism for excellence awards have reported substantial benefits. These include:
  • Increased business
  • Increased profitability
  • A boost to staff morale
  • Greater customer satisfaction

However, it is important to emphasise that, win or lose, your business will benefit simply by taking part in the competition. The application process and feedback from the judges will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of your business and advise you how to improve."

"Quality matters, so be a part of the drive to improve excellence in tourism by demonstrating your own excellence."
