New booking engine uses Twitter

Last Updated: 26 Oct 2009

A new booking engine that uses the versatility of Twitter has recently launched, bringing yet another means to boost an accommodation’s visibility in these recession-hit times. Called Inoqo, the privately-funded company allows accommodation providers to advertise special packages on Twitter, allowing them to fill in those available rooms.

To ensure that the traffic does not become overwhelming, Inoqo only publishes packages that are available within the next 48 hours, a sort of last-minute deal, and capitalises on the ever-increasing popularity of Twitter. Users can follow the stream – or streams – of their favourite destination and will be automatically notified should there be such a last-minute opportunity.

More and more opportunities arise to make use of current technology, including networking sites such as Twitter, which helps accommodation providers increase their visibility and reach a greater number of potential clients. It is important to harness all these opportunities to boost visibility and reach.

Inoqo specifically targets business travellers who can then save money and book last-minute accommodation; holidaymakers who might want to go away for an unplanned holiday or weekend break; and corporate travel arrangers who can keep track of accommodation deals near their offices and book in their clients as needed.

When queried as to the relevance for this service to Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs) and self-catering accommodation providers, Inoqo replied that they were “actually particularly suited to these types of locations that often find it difficult to compete with the larger properties.”
