Upcoming legislation on Accommodation Know-How

Last Updated: 14 Apr 2011

As stated in our feature, published last month, we cannot stress enough the importance to understand the legislation that applies to accommodation providers. This is not just to make sure that you comply to current rules and regulations, but it can also provide you with a significant improvement on the service you provide and help you save money in providing it.

Many accommodation providers will check Accommodation Know-How once and then forget all about it, but legislation is not static and it changes all the time, although there has been a slight lull in new legislation with a new government in place, things are now again on the move and you can expect a few legislative measures to be implemented in the coming year. Look out for changes in the following, all of which will have an impact on accommodation providers:
  • Changes to the Furnished Holiday Lettings rules (in this month’s update)
  • Paternal leave (in this month’s update)
  • Energy Performance Certificates
  • Age discrimination legislation
  • Tightening of the Package Travel regulations
  • Changes to planning applications
  • Proposals to change the rules for tourism signage
  • Restrictions on the sale of alcohol.
