New Legislation and Updated Topics

This section gives you a quick guide to the topics within the Legislation Guidance section of the site that have been updated or added in the last month, enabling you to quickly identify new areas you may need to comply with.

Smoking ban

On July 1st 2007, England introduced a new law to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smoke free. Under the Health Act 2006, smoking will be banned in enclosed public spaces and places of work, with some exemptions.

More information on how to comply is available in the Smoking in Public Places section.

Migrant workers

Accommodation providers employing foreign workers need to make sure that they have permission to work here before they start working. Employees from certain Eastern European countries need to also register with the Home Office’s Worker Registration Scheme.

More information on this topic is available in the new Migrant Workers section.
